Women's Tennis Takes Third Place At Atlantic 10 Championships

The fourth-seeded Owls defeated the No. 5 seed, Duquesne, 4-0 in the quarterfinal round on Friday to set up a semifinal-round match with top-seeded George Washington on Saturday. In that match, a hard-fought 4-2 loss to the Colonials, the Owls extended play for nearly five hours before finally taking the defeat.
The Owls rebounded Sunday to dispatch third-seeded Xavier for third-place in the final tournament standings. Danira Penic, Temple's freshman No. single, posted a flawless 6-0, 6-0 win over Emily Senich. The Owls' No. 3 player, Lara Ercegovic, also a freshman, defeated Natalie Palmenter, 6-2, 6-0, and senior Tanja Zecic, Temple's No. 5 player, closed out the match with a solid 6-1, 6-1 win over Tracie Fraunfelder. In the doubles competition, the Temple teams of senior Tamara Truta-Ercegovic and Zecic-junior Nina Kumar posted respective 8-4, 8-6 wins.
The Temple women's tennis team will close out the 2001 season in a non-conference dual match at Princeton on April 27.
