Women's Soccer Breaks School Record for Victories In A Season

PHILADELPHIA - Head coach Seamus Williams' Owls were led in scoring by junior forward Brandi Wright with (10 goals, 1 assist) 21 points a career high and senior Julie Marx (8 goals and 2 assists) 18 points doubling her previous total of 7 points.

Wright was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week, for the week ending October 22. She is currently 3rd all-time in goals at Temple with 24; the school record is 31(held by Kim Fitzgerald 1993-96) and she finished the season 4th all-time in points with 52; the school record is 75(held by Patrice Rutland 1991-94).

Sophomore midfielder Johanna Yemm was named to the 2000 Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie Team. Yemm started in all 19 games she played scoring 4 goals (1 game-winning goal) and adding 4 assists to total 12 points. She was the Owls 4th leading scorer and the only Owl to gain any post-season accolades. Fellow teammates Brandi Wright was nomonated for Player of the Year and A-10 Team, Jeanette Hibbs was nominated for Defensive Player of the Year and Julie Marx was nominated for A-10 Conference Team were nominated but not selected.

Temple women's soccer team earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas Team Academic Award for the second time (1997-98 and 1999-2000) in three years. Temple was one of 100 women's programs and 34 men's programs (including NAIA, Division I, II and III schools) to receive the honor. The NSCAA is the largest single-sport coaching organization in the United States with more than 14,600 members. To be eligible for the award a team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.00 for the year based on a 4.00 scale. Temple produced a grade point average of 3.12 as a team.

The Owls' season was full of streaks; they had a five -game winning streak and a six-game losing streak. At their high point the Owls' were 8-2 and at their lowest point they were 8-8. The team finished strong winning three out of their last four games to place tied for sixth in the conference. Their 11-9 record overall broke the school record for victories in a season and 4-6 in the Atlantic 10 Conference providing head coach Seamus Williams with his first winning season since 1995.
