Temple Looks To Make Third Time The Charm At Atlantic 10 Championship

5.3.01 | Women's Lacrosse

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple lacrosse team (11-5, 5-0) will enter the third annual Verizon Atlantic 10 Women's Lacrosse Championship on May 4 much as it did the other two by holding at least a share of the regular season conference championship. The Owls hope the third time is the charm as they seek to win the A-10 crown for the first time.

Although it's May, Temple's team is hotter than July as it enters the championship on the heels of a six-game winning streak and having won eight of its last nine games. The Owls were undefeated in conference play this season and will face the host team, St. Joseph's at noon on Friday, May 4 followed by the Duquesne and defending champion Massachusetts at 2:30 p.m. The winners will square off on Saturday, May 5 at noon for the Atlantic 10 crown and the automatic bid to the 16-team field of the NCAA Tournament.

Sophomore Patience Synnestvedt and junior Noelle Cebron are Temple's leading scorers with 36 points on the season (Synnestvedt 23 goals, 13 assists, Cebron 19 goals, 17 assists). Sophomore Deanna Radcliffe leads the Owls in goals with 31. Six Temple players have scored 20 or more goals and five have more than 30 points. Goalie Sheena Oommen has a save percentage of .642 and a Goals Against Average of 7.56. Temple head coach Kim Ciarrocca, who was inducted in the Temple Hall of Fame in 2001 has a 93-55 record in her seven seasons with the Owls and led them to the NCAA Final Four as recently as 1997.
