PHILADELPHIA - The Temple lacrosse team (12-5, 5-0) took the first step in its quest to earn its first Verizon Atlantic 10 Conference title with a 15-6 win over fourth seeded St. Joseph's on May 4. The Owls will now duke it out with Duquesne for the title at noon on May 5. The Owls took the early lead by scoring the first four goals of the contest. St. Joseph's battled back to close the gap to 6-4 and the teams went to intermission with Temple leading 9-5. In the second half, the Owls erased any hope of a Hawks rally, outscoring them 6-1 to create the final margin of victory. . Temple has now won seven straight games heading into the final.
Freshman Tiffany Pulaski led Temple with four goals. Jen Jefferson (3 goals), Robin Keevan (2 goals, 2 assists), Patience Synnestvedt (2 goals, 2 assists), Liz Frengs (2 goals, 1 assist) Deanna Radcliffe (2 goals) and Alli Demas (1 assist) rounded out the scoring for Temple. Goalie Sheena Oommen had 22 saves for the Owls.
Head coach Kim Ciarrocca, who was named the Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year on May 3, will lead her team against a Duquesne team that suffered only one conference loss this season. That loss came against the Owls 13-4 at Duquesne in the two teams only meeting of the season.
