QB Devin Scott completed 11 of 15 passes for 118 yards and a TD. 26,191 fans were on hand to see the victory, which evened Bobby Wallace's opening day record at Temple at 2-2.
Temple took control of the game from the outset as it had a 16 play, 85-yard penalty free drive where it kept the ball for 7:40 on the opening possession. The scoring drive was capped off with a 19 yard TD pass from Scott to running back Lester Trammer. The Owls increased the lead to 10-0 in the second quarter on placekicker Jared Davis' 39-yard field goal, his first career attempt, and led 17-6 at the half after McKie's spectacular 80 yard run.
In the second half, Temple opened the scoring with a 47-yard punt return for a score by Zamir Abdul-Hakim Cobb and the Owls never looked back. The punt return for a TD was the first for the Owls since 1994.
Navy QB Craig Candeto threw two TD passes for the Midshipmen.
Senior Chonn Lacey was one of many bright spots for Temple. The Pottstown, Pa. native played both ways and on special teams, catching three passes for 53 yards and a TD at wide receiver while recording six tackles and three pass defenses at the owl back position.
Defensive end Raheem Brock also came up big. The Philadelphia product posted 10 tackles (five solo), two sacks, four TFLs and seven PBUs.
Next up for Temple, another home game at Franklin Field, Saturday, Sept. 8 at 4:00 p.m., against the Toledo Rockets. Toledo defeated Minnesota, 38-7 Thursday evening in its season opener.
