TEMPLE VERSUS CONNECTICUT GAME NOTES

Temple (1-1, 0-0) is coming off a 33-7 loss to Toledo at Franklin Field. The Owls could not capitalize on early chances in a penalty-filled game that saw the teams combine for 32 penalties for 283 yards. Temple could muster only 139 yards of total offense and set a school record for least rushing yards in a game with -27. It also marked the first time in school history the Owls did not gain a first down rushing. Freshman Mike McGann saw his first collegiate action under center and threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to senior wideout Greg Muckerson. Junior speedster Sean Dillard caught five passes for 113 yards, including a career long 49-yard reception from senior Devin Scott.
McGann is slated to make his first collegiate start versus the Huskies on Saturday, which will also mark the Havertown, Pa. native's 19th birthday.
Connecticut, playing its second season at the Division I-A level, dropped a 35-17 decision to I-AA opponent Eastern Washington at home. The Huskies (0-2), under the direction of third-year head coach Randy Edsall, yielded 530 yards, 384 passing to the Eagles. Freshman quarterback Dan Orlovsky saw his first collegiate action in the fourth quarter in place of starter Keron Henry in the loss. In its first two games, Connecticut has been outscored by an 87-27 margin.
The first 2,500 youngsters aged 14 and under at Saturday's game receive a free "Hooter" bobble-head doll courtesy of Pepsi and the first 2,500 adults receive a disposable camera courtesy of Sunoco. In addition, the "Monkees," one of the biggest-selling music groups of the 60's, will perform following the game.
