TEMPLE AT BOWLING GREEN GAME NOTES

9.17.01 | Football

The Temple Owls and Bowling Green Falcons meet Saturday evening after Division I-A college football postponed this past weekend's games in the wake of the tragic events of Tuesday, September 11. The game is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. kickoff at Perry Stadium and marks Temple's first road game of the season. Saturday's match-up is the only scheduled evening contest for the Owls, whose last night game was a 29-24 loss to West Virginia (Sept. 28, 2000) at Franklin Field. Temple played three other evening contests last season, a 17-6 win at Navy (Sept. 2), a 10-17 loss at Maryland (Sept. 9) and a 31-14 victory over Bowling Green (Sept. 16) at Franklin Field.

The Temple - Connecticut football game, originally scheduled for 12:00 noon on Saturday, September 15 at Franklin Field, will be played on Saturday, November 24, in Philadelphia. The time and location of the game is yet to be determined.

Temple (1-1, 0-0) is coming off a 33-7 loss to Toledo at Franklin Field. The Owls could not capitalize on early chances in a penalty-filled game that saw the teams combine for 32 penalties for 283 yards. Temple could muster only 139 yards of total offense and set a school record for least rushing yards in a game with -27. It also marked the first time in school history the Owls did not gain a first down rushing. Freshman Mike McGann saw his first collegiate action and threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to senior wideout Greg Muckerson. Junior speedster Sean Dillard caught five passes for 113 yards, including a career long 49-yard reception from senior Devin Scott.

McGann is slated to make his first collegiate start versus the Falcons on Saturday.

Bowling Green (2-0, 1-0), under the direction of first-year head coach Urban Meyer, defeated MAC opponent, Buffalo, 35-0, at home on Sept. 8. The Falcons held the Bulls to 43 yards rushing and one rushing first down. Bowling Green opened the season with a 20-13 win at Missouri on Sept. 1, to spoil former Toledo head coach Gary Pinkel's debut with the Tigers. The Falcons 2-0 record marks the school's best start since 1985 (11-0).
