TEMPLE'S RAHEEM BROCK NAMED BIG EAST DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

9.3.01 | Football

PHILADELPHIA -- Temple defensive end Raheem Brock (Philadelphia, Pa./Dobbins H.S.) was named the Big East Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced today. Miami quarterback Ken Dorsey and Boston College running back William Green shared Offensive Player of the Week honors while Hurricane placekicker Todd Sievers captured Special Teams Player of the Week.

Brock earned the award after posting 10 tackles (5 solo, 5 assists), four tackles for loss, two quarterback sacks, two quarterback pressures and seven pass break-ups in Temple's 45-26 season-opening win over Navy at Franklin Field last Thursday (Aug. 30). The senior, who has a 37.0-inch vertical jump, was a major reason the Midshipmen accumulated just 49 yards rushing on the evening.

Brock, who earned an additional season of eligibility through his work in the classroom this past summer, is the first Owl to earn the honor since Dan Klecko was named Big East Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 11, 1999.

Temple next takes the field against Toledo at Franklin Field, this Saturday, Sept. 8 at 4:00 p.m. The Rockets are coming off a 38-7 defeat of Minnesota.
