OWLS WOMEN BOUNCE BONNIES

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple University women's basketball team (8-6, 3-0 A-10) remained unbeaten in the Atlantic10 by beating St. Bonaventure (8-6, 2-1 A-10) 64-54 on January 11, 2002 at the Liacouras Center. After a slow start which saw the Owls trail 32-29 at halftime, Temple came alive in the second stanza using a 13-1 run to secure the win.

Senior forward Athena Christoforakis led Temple with 15 points and eight rebounds. Lisa Jakubowicz (13) and Chrissy Cruz (10) were the other double figure scorers for the Owls. Stacey Smalls added nine points, all in the second half. The tenacious defense of Toni Belafonate and Christena Hamilition off the bench helped the Owls trap their eighth win of the season.

St. Bonaventure's Courtney Mattingly led all scorers and rebounders with 21 points and 16 rebounds. Graziella Charles was the only other Bonnie in double figures with 10 points.

Next up for the Owls is another Atlantic 10 match-up against Duquesne on Sunday, January 13 at 2:00 p.m. at the Liacouras Center.
