PHILADELPHIA - Temple University's women's soccer program, coached by Seamus McWilliams, earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Adidas Team Academic Award for the third time (1997-98,1999-2000 and 2000-2001) in four years. Temple was one of 229 women's programs and 34 men's programs (including NAIA, Division I, II and III schools) to receive the honor. Temple produced a grade point average of 3.11 as a team.
"In soccer there is nothing greater than a hat trick," said McWilliams. "Equally in education, there is nothing greater than being honored three times with this prestigous academic award. Our student athletes have done a great job both in education and in athletics."
The NSCAA is the largest single-sport coaching organization in the United States with more than 14,600 members. To be eligible for the award a team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.00 for the year based on a 4.00 scale.
