Kingston, R.I. -- The Temple women's basketball team (7-6, 2-0) extended its winning streak to four games as it won an Atlantic 10 Conference thriller at Rhode Island (6-6, 0-2) 60-58 on January 6. The Owls led by as many as 12 points in the first half and held a 31-24 advantage at halftime. In the second stanza, the Rams used an 11-3 run to make the game a battle throughout the final 20 minutes. Down the stretch, the lead changed hands nine times and Rhode Island held a one-point lead with 39 seconds remaining. Coming out of a timeout, the Owls got the ball to senior guard Natalia Isaac who with just 13 ticks on the clock, made a floating bank shot amidst heavy traffic to put Temple ahead for good.

Junior guard Stacey Smalls led all scorers with a career-high 22 points. Smalls was sizzling from the three-point line, hitting 6-7 (86 percent) from beyond the arc. Isaac also scored in double figures notching 12 points including her improbable game winner. Junior guard Regan Apo added nine points and was the only player to shoot better than Smalls from three-point range going 2-2 on treys. Senior Athena Christoforakis led Temple in rebounding with a game-high 10 boards. The Owls shot well from the three-point line as a team hitting 53 percent from 19'9" while also improving their free throw shooting hitting 74 percent from the charity stripe. On the down side, Temple committed an uncharacteristic 26 turnovers while forcing 21 Rhode Island miscues.

Hilary Goodrich led the Rams in scoring with 19 points. Vedrana Bajagic (12) was the only other Rhode Island player to score in double figures.

Temple returns home to face St. Bonaventure on Friday, January 11 at the Liacouras Center. Tip-off is at 7:00 p.m.
