MCGANN NAMED BIG EAST CONFERENCE CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK; FROST CAPTURES SPECIAL TEAMS HONOR
10.14.02 | Football
McGann (6-6, 210) rallied Temple from a 10-3 fourth quarter deficit, throwing two touchdown passes of over 50 yards, including a career-long 65-yard touchdown pass to Tanardo Sharps, to finish with a career-best 340 yards passing. It was the third most in Temple history and the largest output for a TU signal caller since 1996 (Henry Burris, 445 vs. Pittsburgh). The sophomore completed 20 of 38 passes without throwing an interception. McGann shares the Offensive Player of the Week Award with Miami quarterback Ken Dorsey.
Frost (6-2, 230), Temple's back-up signal caller, kept Syracuse's league-leading punt return unit off-balance and wary of the pass en route to Special Teams Player of the Week honors. The senior served as a punter for the first time in his collegiate career, punting four times for 136 yards (34.0 average), including a long of 44 yards. Two punts were inside the 20, at the 17 (out-of-bounds) and two (downed) yard lines. The 44-yarder was fumbled by Jamel Riddle at the Syracuse 25-yard line and recovered by Syracuse at the 28-yard line for no return. The other punt went out of bounds at the Syracuse 26-yard line for no return. All of Frost's punts were inside the 30-yard line and none were returned.
Temple (2-4, 1-1 Big East), under the direction of fifth-year head coach Bobby Wallace, returns to action this Saturday in a 12 noon contest at Connecticut. The game can be listened to live on WPHT (1210 AM).
