WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO RICHMOND 2-1

PHILADELPHIA--The Temple University women's soccer team (8-7, 3-3-A-10) lost a hard fought game to the Richmond Spiders 2-1 this afternoon, October 18, 2002 at Temple Stadium. The Owls Atlantic 10 record dropped to 3-3.
The Spiders were on the board first when sophomore forward Whitney Sikes scored, unassisted, on a breakaway down the right side of the field. Sikes scored again in period two after shooting the ball across the field to find the back of the net and put Richmond up by two. Temple scored five minutes later on a penalty kick from senior defender Stephanie Godsell but it was not enough to secure a win.
Owls goalie Jackie Mauro played all ninety minutes in goal and posted two saves.
The Cherry and White play at home again on Sunday afternoon, October 20, 2002 at Temple Stadium. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
