PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple University women's soccer team (6-5, 1-1 A-10) defeated the Fordham Rams 3-2 this afternoon, October 4, 2002 at Temple Stadium. Freshman Stephanie Vietry scored two goals including the game winner while her identical twin sister Samantha Vietry scored a goal and had an assist. Combined, the twins have scored nine of the Owls 16 goals this season.
Samantha Vietry put the Owls on the board less than a minute into the first period on an unassisted shot past a diving Rams goalie. Stephanie Vietry put Temple up by two nearly ten minutes later after catching a pass from her sister for a header into the net. Fordham made the score 2-1 with just four minutes left in the half after sophomore Katherine Noon caught a pass on a Rams corner kick and slipped the ball past Owls goalie Jackie Mauro.
The Rams evened the score twenty minutes into the second period on a ball that went over the head of Mauro. Stephanie Vietry put the Owls ahead ten minutes later with her second goal of the game and fifth of the season.
Owls goalie Jackie Mauro played all ninety minutes and posted eight saves as the Owls netminder.
