WOMEN'S SOCCER WINS SECOND STRAIGHT; DEFEAT LA SALLE 3-1
10.6.02 | Women's Soccer
The Owls were on the board in the first three minutes of the game when Samantha Vietry notched her fifth goal of the season on a 10 yard shot past a diving Explorers goalie to put Temple up by one. Vietry scored again with seven minutes left in the first period after catching a pass from sister Stephanie for a straight 30 yard shot to the back of the net, giving Temple the 2-0 advantage going in to the half.
With less than five minutes left in the half, senior defender Jeanette Hibbs put the Owls up by three with an unassisted shot to the left of LaSalle's goalie. The Explores got on the board next with less than two minutes to go on a header into the net by La Salle's Lisa Genna. The goal was not enough to secure the win, however, and Temple notched their seventh win of the season.
Owls goalie Jackie Mauro had another outstanding performance for the Owls after posting eight saves and leading the Owls offense for all 90 minutes. LaSalle goalie, Kerry Schamberger had 10 saves for the Explorers.
The Cherry and White go on the road this weekend to face St. Bonaventure on October 11 and Duquesne on October 13. Game times are 4:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m.
