12.27.02 | Women's Basketball
Senior Stacey Smalls and sophomore Ari Moore led Temple with 10 points apiece. There were no other Owls who scored more than four points. Freshman center Candice Dupree had a team-high eight rebounds and Moore had a team-high four steals.
Jocelyn Penn, who came in averaging 28 points per game, led South Carolina with a game-high 16 points. Cristina Ciocan (12), Kelly Morrone (10) and Petra Ujhelyi (10) were the other double figure scorers for the Gamecocks.
The loss, the Owls' fifth consecutive defeat, was marked by cold shooting for Temple (25 percent) and the Gamecocks' dominance on the boards (SC 46, TU 34). The Owls shot just 6-32 (18.8 percent) and scored just 13 points in the first half before shooting 10-32 (31.3 percent in the second half. Despite the poor offensive output, there were signs that Temple's effort and hustle were there, especially on the defensive end where the Owls forced more turnovers (24) than they committed (19) and had more steals (11) than their opponent (9).
Next up for Temple, a trip to Mississippi to face the Lady Rebels on January 2. game time is 8:00 p.m.
