OWLS WOMEN FALL PREY TO No. 22 EAGLES

12.7.02 | Women's Basketball

Chestnut Hill, Mass. -- The Temple women's basketball team (4-2, 0-0 A-10) lost to 22nd ranked Boston College (4-1, 0-0 BIG EAST) 69-62 on December 7 at Conte Forum. The Owls held a 29-22 halftime advantage but were outscored 47-33 in the second stanza as the Eagles shot 62.5 percent from the field and 94 percent from the free throw line to seize control of the game.

Freshman center Candice Dupree led Temple with a season/career-high 23 points. Sophomore guard Khadija Bowens (13 points) was the only other Owl to score in double figures. Junior Tynecia Pam grabbed a team-high eight rebounds for Temple. Dupree also was a force under the basket with seven boards.

Jessalyn Deveny led Boston College with 23 points. Amber Jacobs (16 points) and Becky Gottstein (15 points) also scored in double figures for the Eagles.

Despite winning the steals battle 11-7, Temple was uncharacteristically careless with the basketball as it committed as many turnovers as it forced (18). But the biggest difference in the game was at the free throw line where the Owls shot 69.2 percent and while the Eagles shot 86.4 percent.

Temple returns home on Tuesday, December 10 to face Rutgers at the Liacouras Center. Tip-off is at 7:00 p.m.
