GRACE, WIEGLE NAMED TO ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM AS TEMPLE SOFTBALL WINS FOUR OF FIVE AT PIRATE CLASSIC

Temple opened the tournament with a 4-0 victory over Canisius on Friday, February 22. Nanci Lima pitched a complete game shutout while Weigle and Katie Spencer each had two hits to pace the Owls at the plate. Later in the day, the Cherry & White pinned an 8-0 shutout on St. John's as Bari Lynn Pfueger earned the win in a five inning contest. Pflueger also belted two doubles and knocked in three runs against the Red Storm.
On Saturday, Temple defeated Towson, 8-0, in a morning game that featured a five inning, complete game shutout by Liz Naughton. Weigle had two hits and Pflueger contributed two RBIs versus the Tigers. Temple then played an afternoon contest versus Delaware, a game that was halted in the sixth inning due to darkness and completed Sunday morning. The Owls prevailed, 6-3, as Alexis Gary knocked in four runs. Kim Watkins earned the victory in relief, pitching four shutout innings versus the Blue Hens.
The Owls four-game winning streak came to an end in a championship-round game versus Towson. Temple entered the championship round as the tournament's top seed. Aida Esquer had two hits and two RBIs in the 3-2 defeat.
Temple, under the direction of fifth-year head coach Rocci Pignoli, returns to action March 2-3 at the Temple Tournament, held at Erny Field at the Temple Stadium site.
