3.16.02 | Softball

The Temple University softball team was swept by No. 16 Iowa in a doubleheader in Tampa, Florida, on Saturday, March 16. The doubleheader concluded the Owls' Florida road trip over the school's spring break holiday. Temple lost the first game by an 11-0 score before falling short, 6-2, in the second game. The Owls' record now stands at 9-17.

Hawkeye pichers Kristi Hanks and Lisa Birocci combined to throw a five inning, no hitter against the Owls in game one. Bari Lynn Pflueger was tagged with the loss, piching three innings and gaving up five earned runs. Temple struck out seven times in the defeat.

In game two, Katie Spencer, Alexis Gary and Aida Esquer each had two hits as the Owls bats came alive for eight hits. Temple pitchers, however, could not stop the hard-hitting hawkeyes, who slugged 11 hits and struck out only once. Temple stranded eight base runners in the contest.

Temple returns to action next weekend, March 23-24, against Massachusetts with two games at Erny Field to open the Atlantic 10 Conference schedule.
