OWLS DROP TWO IN OPENING DAY OF TEMPLE "SPRING" CLASSIC

In game one, the Owls faced the Dragons in an extra inning thriller that saw the Owls fall in the top of the ninth inning, 7-5. Behind pitcher Nanci Lima who lost her second game of the season, first basemen Bari Lynn Pflueger was 2-5 with a double and three RBI's for the Cherry & White. The Dragons Rachel Levinson was 3-5 with two RBI's and knocked in the game-winning run in the top of the ninth.
The Owls lost game two 12-1 to the Tigers who had a seven run sixth inning and two homeruns in the fourth inning by Melissa Finley and Kim Veenstra. Sophomore Katie Weigle scored the lone run for Temple in the third inning on a base hit by fellow sophomore Lyndsay Grace.
Princeton defeated Drexel 12-2 in the opening game of the tournament behind winning pitcher Wendy Bingham who pitched an impressive three-hitter. The Tigers had two homers in the game by Kristen DelCavo and Melissa Finley. Elizabeth Fuller was the losing pitcher for the Dragons.
Temple's Spring Classic softball tournament continues tomorrow, March 3, 2002 when the Owls face Drexel at 10:00 a.m. and Princeton at 1:30 p.m.
