TEMPLE DEFEATS ST. JOSEPH'S, 3-2, IN SOFTBALL

3.29.02 | Softball

Temple scored three first inning runs and junior pitcher Bari Lynn Pflueger made them hold up as the Owls defeated Saint Joseph's, 3-2, at Erny Field on Friday, March 29. The win breaks a seven game losing skid for Temple (10-20, 1-3 A-10).

The Hawks, which tallied twice in the bottom of the third inning, moved the Atlantic 10 Conference softball series to Temple's home field due to a delay in the arrival of the new fence for St. Joe's home diamond. The series will conclude tomorrow with a doubleheader scheduled for noon.

Temple's bats were hot early. Katie Spencer and Katie Weigle, the first two batters of the game, each singled. Leftfielder Lynsey Grace then singled to drive in Spencer with Weigle moving to third and Grace advancing to second on the throw. Pfleuger dribbled one to first which Missy Rhoades fielded and threw home too late to get the speedy Weigle. Grace also scored on the play as the Hawks tried but failed to nail Pflueger at second base.

The Hawks loaded the bases in the second on singles by Lindsey McNamara, Megan Brown and Megan Richardson. But with two out, Pflueger was able to get freshman Cara Deldeo, the Hawk's leading hitter at .473, to ground out to end the threat.

Pflueger retired the final 12 Hawks in order to pick up her second win of the season against nine losses.
