TEMPLE SWEEPS ST. JOSEPH'S IN SOFTBALL

The three game sweep evens Temple's conference record at 3-3, The Owls opened Atlantic 10 play with three losses to Massachusetts last weekend.
In game one, the Owls trailed 4-0 before plating five runs in the top of the sixth inning. Bari Lynn Pflueger knocked in two runs on a double before Christine Harris plated three runs on her first home run of the season. The Owls continued the onslaught in the seventh inning posting four runs off Hawks' relief pitcher Dana Travis, who was tagged with the loss. Nanci Lima earned the victory in relief of starter Liz Naughton.
In game two, Bari Lynn Pflueger gave up only one earned run in nine innings to earn the complete game victory. The Hawks scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings. The Owls won the contest in the top of the ninth when Katie Weigle scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Pflueger. Aida Esquer was one of four Owls (Pflueger, Spencer and Grace) with multiple hits in the game, going three for four. Brandie Adams was tagged with the loss for St. Joe's.
Temple, under the direction of coach Rocci Pignoli, returns to action next weekend, April 6-7, with a three game set against another Philly foe, La Salle, at Erny Field.
