ESQUER NAMED ATLANTIC 10 SOFTBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Temple freshman shortstop Aida Esquer was named the Atlantic 10 Softball Rookie of the Week for the week ending March 31, 2002. Esquer helped the Cherry & White to a three game sweep of cross-town rival Saint Joseph's this past weekend, March 29 and 30.
The Owls entered the series on a seven-game losing skid and exited the weekend on a three-game winning streak.
In the series, Esquer was 6-11 at the plate with three doubles. She currently ranks second on he team with seven two-baggers. Esquer also boasted a .818 slugging percentage and a .545 on base percentage through the three-game set.
So far this season, Esquer has started 29 games for the Owls and is fourth on the team with a .286 batting average.
Temple (12-20, 3-3 A-10), under the direction of fifth-year head coach Rocci Pignoli, returns to action this weekend against another Philadelphia foe, La Salle, in a three-game series, April 6-7, at Erny Field.
