4.17.02 | Softball

Philadelphia, Pa-- Junior Bari Lynn Pflueger (7-9) broke Temple's single season RBI record (32) and allowed just one run en route to Temple's (20-20, 9-3 A-10) eleventh straight win as the Owls defeated the Villanova Wildcats (31-8), 2-1, this afternoon, April 17, 2002 at Erny Field.

The Cherry & White took the lead in the bottom of the first inning on a groundout by Pflueger to score senior second basemen Katie Spencer. It was with this run that Pflueger topped Temple's single season RBI mark of 32. The Owls were then able to hold the Wildcats scoreless until the top of the seventh when senior second basemen Karen Niwinski singled up the middle to score junior Sara Carlson and tie the game at 1-1. The Owls came back in the bottom of the seventh when Wildcats pitcher Theresa Hornick gave up a single to freshman Aida Esquer, walked the next two Temple batters and hit sophomore Lynsey Grace on the leg to walk in the winning run and secure the game for Temple.

The Owls look to keep their winning streak alive as they go on the road to the University of Rhode Island this weekend, April 20 and 21, 2002.
