OWLS CONCLUDE SPRING FOOTBALL DRILLS WITH ANNUAL CHERRY & WHITE SCRIMMAGE

"We've recruited every one of these kids," said Wallace when asked to reflect upon this year's spring practice. "We have a very good family atmosphere and many intangibles in our program. This spring was a very comfortable one. I just wish we would have performed a little better offensively today. I think it has been a productive spring."
Under sunny skies, the Owls' new, spread offense was on display for the first time before Temple football fans. Sophomore quarterback Mike McGann completed 12 of 19 passes for 95 yards, including a 20-yard scoring toss to senior receiver Sean Dillard as the offense put 20 points on the board. Senior signal-caller Mike Frost connected on six of 11 attempts for 101 yards, including a 31-yard touchdown strike to junior wideout Terrence Stubbs. Sophomore quarterback Collin Hannigan completed five of 12 passes for 45 yards in the offense versus defense affair that consisted of approximately 100 plays.
Senior wide receiver Krishan Lewis had the game's best yardage total, hauling in seven passes for 99 yards. On the ground, redshirt freshman Umar Ferguson had the top tally, carrying seven times for 55 yards. Leading rusher Tanardo Sharps saw limited action, carrying three times for 17 yards. Senior Cap Poklemba connected on two field goals, converting two, 21-yard attempts.
Defensively, redshirt freshman linebacker Manuel Tapia rose to the occasion, making 4.5 tackles while both forcing and recovering a fumble. Senior owlback Gerard Bishop (six tackles), redshirt freshman defensive back Delonne Wilbourn (five tackles, two PBUs) and redshirt freshman defensive end Rodney Wormley (4.5 tackles, one QBH) also helped the defensive charge. Junior defensive back Yazid Jackson and junior linebacker Troy Bennett each made interceptions, with Bennett tacking-on a 50-yard return to the offense's five-yard line.
Senior All-America candidate Dan Klecko saw limited action in the scrimmage.
The Owls begins their 2002 regular season versus Richmond at Franklin Field on Thursday, August 29. Temple's 2002 football schedule features seven home games, the University's most since 1942 (eight) and includes seven opponents that played in bowl games last season. The NCAA is permitting 12 regular season games in 2002.
