TEMPLE SOFTBALL TAKES TWO, EXTENDS WIN STREAK TO FIVE GAMES
4.6.02 | Softball
Temple bombarded La Salle pitching early and often in game one, as the Owls slugged 12 hits, including three home runs, in the contest that was halted after five innings. Temple scored two first inning runs when Christine Harris belted a two-out double to plate Katie Spencer and Lynsey Grace.
Temple then posted two big innings to put the game out of reach. With two runs already across in the third, Harris hit a two-run homer before catcher Alexis Gary went yard to give Temple back-to-back homers and a 7-0 lead. The onslaught continued in the fourth as the Owls scored five runs on four hits in the inning.
Bari Lynn Pflueger earned the victory, giving up one earned run in five innings of work.
Game two of the doubleheader was a much tighter affair, as the lead changed hands five times. Once again, Temple scored two first inning runs as Katie Weigle scored on a Grace single. Grace later crossed the plate on an error. Both teams scored second inning runs before the Explorers posted a three-spot in the fourth.
With the game tied at five entering the sixth inning, Weigle singled and later scored on a fielder's choice to put the Owls ahead by one. Winning pitcher Liz Naughton then shut the door on the Explorers in the top of the seventh, striking out two and not allowing a hit.
Naughton stuck out 10 and gave up only two earned runs in the victory.
