TEMPLE SOFTBALL COMPLETES THREE-GAME SWEEP OF LA SALLE

4.7.02 | Softball

The Temple University softball team (15-20, 6-3 A-10) used a 10 run second inning to defeat La Salle (10-23, 0-9 A-10), 12-4, at Erny Field on Sunday, April 7, to complete a three-game sweep of the Explorers. The victory extends the Owls winning streak to six games against conference competition and gives the team two consecutive series sweeps over city rivals. Temple took three games from St. Joseph's, March 29-30, before disposing of La Salle.

Temple's assault on Explorer pitching continued on Sunday, as the Owls slugged 15 hits. Four players posted multiple hits, with pitcher Bari Lynn Pflueger and first baseman Christine Harris each tallying three. The Owls also went yard three times against La Salle, as leftfielder Lynsey Grace, Pfueger and Harris each hit the long ball.

In total, nine Owls registered hits. La Salle committed four errors in the contest that was halted after six innings.

On the mound, Pflueger earned her second win of the series by allowing only one earned run, without giving up a walk, in three innings of work. Pflueger, who won two games last weekend against the Hawks, has been victorious in four consecutive starts. Kim Watkins worked three innings in relief, allowing two earned runs.

Temple returns to action against another Philadelphia foe at Erny Field on Wednesday, April 10. The Owls host Ivy League member Penn at 4:00 p.m.
