OWLS DEFEAT NEW HAMPSHIRE 3-2; FALL TO RUTGERS 3-2 IN DAY TWO OF TEMPLE VOLLEYBALL CLASSIC

PHILADELPHIA, PA -- The Temple University women's volleyball team played two nail-biters today, September 14, 2002 in day two of the 2002 Temple Volleyball Classic when they defeated New Hampshire three games to two and lost to Rutgers three games to two.

In game one, the Owls were led by junior outside hitter Yamit Haba who posted a double-double with 21 kills and 15 digs. Junior outside hitter Xu Xun also had a double-double with 16 kills and 16 digs. Setter Alison Runk had 39 assists. New Hampshire was led by junior outside hitter Alyson Coler with 23 kills and 12 digs.

Xu and Haba led the way for the Owls in game two against Rutgers, each posting their second double-double of the day. Xu contributed 24 kills and 17 digs while Haba had 27 kills and 17 digs. Setter Alison Runk had 68 assists, boosting her total for the day to 107. Rutgers was led by outside hitter Shayla Bush with 23 kills and 20 digs.

After the tournament, Xu and junior middle blocker Charity Hill were named to the All-Tournament team.

The Owls are back in action next weekend, September 20 when they compete in the New Mexico Tournament.
