OWLS RIDE MUSTANGS TO A 3-2 VICTORY TO CLOSE THE NEW MEXICO VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT

Albuquerque, N.M.- The Temple volleyball team (8-5, 0-0) left the New Mexico Tournament on a winning note as it defeated SMU (5-8, 0-0) 3-2 on Spetember 21. The game scores were, 23-30, 30-25, 28-30, 32-30 and 15-10. Although neither team hit particularly well (Temple .163 - SMU .152) the Owls prevailed in the hard fought, five-game match.
Junior outside hitter Xu Yun led Temple with 23 kills and 17 digs. Fellow juniors Yamit Haba (15 kills, 23 digs) and Margaret Majewska (10 kills, nine digs) were also key contributors for the Owls. Sophomore setter Alison Runk dished out 52 assistsand had 12 digs.
Leslie Lasiter led SMU with 21 kills, one of four players to record double digit kill numbers for the Mustangs. Jessica Mihm had a match-high 63 assists in the match.
Next up for the Owls, a home date with La Salle to open Atlantic 10 Conference play on Tuesday, September 24 at McGonigle Hall. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
