11 FORMER OWLS ON NFL ROSTERS

9.4.02 | Football

11 former Owls are on National Football League rosters for the upcoming season, including two members of last year's Temple squad.

Raheem Brock, who totaled 51 tackles, 12 tackles for loss and four sacks in 11 games last season with Temple, will begin his rookie year with the Indianapolis Colts. Brock was the Philadelphia Eagles' 2002 seventh-round draft pick.

A member of the Green Bay Packers last season, quarterback Henry Burris joins the division-rival Chicago Bears for the 2002 campaign. Burris held 20 school and 10 BIG EAST conference passing records upon his graduation from Temple. He still ranks at the top of several Temple offensive categories, including career total offense (7,470), pass completions (558) and attempts (1,136), passing yards (7,495) and touchdown passes (49).

Roger Chanoine begins his fourth season on the Cleveland Browns' offensive line. After starting 21 games for Temple from 1994-1997, Chanoine signed with the Browns as an undrafted free agent. Last year, he started all 16 regular season games at right tackle.

After spending time with the Indianapolis Colts and Carolina Panthers, Larry Chester inked a five-year deal with the Miami Dolphins this past offseason. A 1997 second-team All-BIG EAST selection, Chester enters 2002 as Miami's starting defensive tackle.

Konrad Dean made the Seattle Seahawks as a undrafted rookie free agent. Dean started on the offensive line for the Owls from 1997-1998 before transferring to the University of Akron.

Lance Johnstone, a four-time All-BIG EAST performer (1992-1995) at Temple, begins his second season with the Minnesota Vikings. The Philadelphia native accumulated 29 sacks in his first five seasons with the Oakland Raiders, including a career-high 11 in 1998 and 10 in 1999.

Running back Stacey Mack returns to the Jacksonville Jaguars after a career-year, in which he rushed for 877 yards and 9 touchdowns. His 2001 output moved him into fourth place on the Jaguars' all-time rushing list. After leading the Owls in rushing for two consecutive years, Mack was named the MVP of the 1998 Blue-Gray All-Star Game.

Mathias Nkwenti enters his second season with the Pittsburgh Steelers. After anchoring Temple's offensive line, the Steelers made Nkwenti their fourth-round selection in the 2001 NFL Draft.

Alshermond Singleton, whose 390 career tackles are third in Temple's annals, begins the season at the top of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' depth chart at strongside linebacker. Singleton played in all 16 regular season contests for the Bucs in 2001 on special teams and at linebacker.

The Seattle Seahawks' Tim Terry, a linebacker by trade, played in all 16 games last year on special teams. Terry played in all 44 games during his Temple career, notching 43 starts.

Another member of the 2001 Owls remains in the area to begin his professional career. The Philadelphia Eagles signed fullback Jason McKie, Temple's second leading rusher last season, to their practice squad.
