TEMPLE WOMEN'S SOCCER FALL TO NIAGARA 3-1 IN FINAL ROUND OF NIAGARA SOCCER TOURNAMENT

Niagara, N.Y.--The Temple University women's soccer team (2-2, 0-0 A-10) lost to Niagara University 3-1 in the second and final round of the Niagara University Soccer Tournament Sunday afternoon, September 8, 2002.

Niagara scored first late in the first period on a goal shot over the head of Owls goalie Jackie Mauro (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) giving Niagara the 1-0 advantage at halftime.

The second period saw most of the games offensive power. Niagara scored their second goal of the game on a sweeping pass across crease that found the back of the net. The Owls answered back in the 64th minute of the game on a shot to the corner of the net by freshman Samantha Vietry (Cranston, R.I./Cranston High West). Freshman Jackie Conn (Morton, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) and senior Cameron Jennings (Richmond, Va./James River) each got an assist on the play. In minute 70, Niagara secured the win on an unassisted goal by forward Sara Pinelli making the score 3-1.

Mauro played all 90 minutes for the Owls while posting seven saves.

The Owls are in action again this Tuesday, September 10, 2002 against Siena College in Louderville, N.Y. Game time is at 4:00 p.m.
