Temple freshman linebacker Rian Wallace (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown High School) has been named a Sporting News Fourth Team Freshman All-American.
Wallace (6-4, 244) appeared in all 12 games for the Owls in 2002, making seven starts. He placed third on the team with 71 tackles (49 solo), including 6.5 tackles-for-loss, while making one interception, three quarterback hurries, three pass break-ups and a forced fumble.
Wallace is the cousin of former Temple defensive back Chonn Lacey, a four-year starter for the Owls from 1998-01.
Temple, under the direction of fifth-year head coach Bobby Wallace, finished the 2002 season with a 4-8 record, including a 2-5 mark in Big East Conference play.
