PHILADELPHIA -- Six Temple University student-athletes were today (Thursday, January 30, 2003) named to the 2002 Big East Conference All-Academic football team.

John Gross, Freshman, OT, Environmental Studies, Slatington, Pa.

Jason Johnson, R-Freshman, DE, Honors Intl. Business Admin., Camp Hill, Pa.

J.D. Nichols, Senior, LB, Finance, Phoenix, Ariz.

The All-Academic Team recognizes letterwinners who have posted a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or better. Student-athletes who have completed a minimum of two semesters of academic work are eligible. It is the 12th consecutive season the Big East has honored its student-athletes with an all-academic team.

The Temple University football team, under the direction of head coach Bobby Wallace, completed the 2002 season with a 4-8 record. The Owls finished tied for sixth in the Big East Conference with a 2-5 league mark.
