Senior wide receiver Zamir Cobb became Temple's all-time career receptions leader with a nine-yard reception with three seconds remaining in the first quarter. The catch, his second of the afternoon, gave him 131 for his career. Cobb moved past former teammate Sean Dillard, who recorded 130 career receptions for the Cherry & White from 1999-2002. Cobb, who finished the day with six catches for 44 yards, entered the afternoon as one of the nation's leading receivers, tied for fifth in receptions (7.6 per game) and eighth in receiving yards (106.6 per game).
Derrick Knight, the nation's No. 3 leading rusher entering this week, notched his BIG EAST-leading 14th career 100-yard rushing game with seven carries for 105 yards in the first quarter for Boston College. The senior finished the game with 158 yards on 21 carries. Quarterback Quinton Porter had a career day for the Eagles, throwing for 308 yards with three touchdowns on 18-24 passing.
The Eagles set the pace for the afternoon on their first play from scrimmage with a 34-yard run by Knight to push the ball into Owl territory. With 13:16 on the clock, BC grabbed a 7-0 lead on a 13-yard scamper by Horace Dodd.
Temple started the game with excellent field position after a 47-yard kickoff return by Jamil Porter. After two successive first-down receptions by Makonnen Fenton, the Owls threatened to knot the score at 7-7 before Will Blackmon intercepted Mike McGann's pass on the Temple six yard-line. The Cherry & White threatened often in the first half, entering Eagle territory in four of its first five possessions, but could not produce a score.
A six-play, 94-yard drive on Boston College's second try resulted in a Grant Adams 16-yard reception that gave the Eagles a 14-0 advantage less than five minutes into the contest. The Eagles scored again on their next possession with a 65-yard bomb from Porter to Larry Lester and held on to the 21-0 advantage through intermission.
After Mike Mendenhall recovered a BC fumble, Walter Washington directed the Owl offense to a 13-play, 54-yard drive that culminated in a six-yard touchdown pass to Phil Goodman at the end of the third period. Temple's kicking woes for the season continued as the ensuing extra-point attempt was unsuccessful.
Dodd followed Temple's score with a 50-yard touchdown run that extended Boston College's lead to 35-6 with 14:11 remaining in the game. Listed behind Knight on the depth chart, Dodd tallied 87 yards on just six carries.
Following a Boston College field goal, Washington hooked up with Goodman for the second time on the afternoon on a 29-yard touchdown pass with 30 seconds to play. After Cobb recovered Temple's onside kick attempt, the Owls drove to the 19 yard-line before time expired.
Bobby Wallace (99-81-1 in 16 years) remains one win shy of his 100th career victory and fell to 3-3 at Temple in Homecoming contests. Temple (1-5, 0-1 BIG EAST) will travel to Florida to face No. 2 Miami (6-0, 2-0 BIG EAST) on October 18 before returning to Lincoln Financial Field for a 1:00 p.m. contest against Rutgers on October 25. Boston College improves to 4-2, 1-1.
