WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO DUQUESNE IN DOUBLE OVERTIME
10.19.03 | Women's Soccer
The Owls jumped on the board first at the 33:16 minute mark as senior defender Johanna Yemm scored an unassisted goal on a long shot sent diagonally across the box and into the corner of the net. The Dukes came out strong in the second half as they scored in the first minute of play. Forty-four seconds into the second half senior defender Becky Barritt picked up a loose ball in the Dukes' box and nailed it around Temple goalkeeper junior Jackie Mauro.
The Owls and Dukes played evenly and aggressively for the remainder of the second half and first overtime period. With 6:30 minutes remaining in the second overtime period sophomore midfielder Katie Hensel tapped the ball to senior midfielder Lauren Bracco inside the Owls' defensive box. Bracco accepted the pass and hammered a short-range shot into the back of the net to score the game-winning goal.
Mauro recorded five saves in 103:30 minutes of play. Duquesne goaltender freshman Rachel Gecik registered four saves.
The Owls (3-11-1; 1-6) return to action on Friday, October 24 when they take on Richmond on the road.
