Ana Maslesa captured the A-2 singles title and then paired with 2003 A-10 Player of the Year Danira Penic to win the A-2 doubles championship. Maslesa had her toughest match in the semifinal round on Sunday, defeating Virginia's Kristen James, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (5). She also had a close encounter in her quarterfinal match with Richmond's Lindsay Cox, winning 7-5, 6-4. In doubles, the Owl duo downed a Winthrop team of Ana Paula Novaes and Danielle Moita, 8-5, for the title.
Laura Sieverling had an easier time in winning her D-2 title. The Owl standout defeated North Carolina State's Taylor Parker, 6-0, 6-1, in the finals. She did have to overcome a one-set deficit to Richmond's Patty Devlin in the semis, winning 2-6, 6-1, 6-3.
At C-1 singles, Jennifer Goeta won two three-set matches to reach her final before succumbing to North Carolina State's Agustina Arechevaleta, 6-2, 6-1. Goeta and Sieverling also advanced to the C-2 doubles quarterfinals.
Lauren Verrall ran into some hard luck, advancing to the semifinals of the C-2 singles flight before having to retire due to injury despite leading her match, 7-6 (1), 4-0. Her injury also forced her doubles team with Jackie Sy to miss their final. The duo had won two matches to reach the final, defeating teams from Virginia Wesleyan and Delaware.
The Owls next compete in the ITA East Regionals held at Virginia Tech from October 24-28.
