VIETRY TWINS COMBINE ON GAME-WINNER IN DOUBLE OVERTIME VICTORY FOR WOMEN'S SOCCER

The Owls jumped on the board first as freshman midfielder Elena Hekimian hustled for a loose ball off a corner kick sent by sophomore defender Trish Dalton. Hekimian controlled the ball and sent it to fellow freshman Katie Louth, who met the ball in the middle of the box and sent it across the Massachusetts goal line. With the assist Hekimian earned her first career point.
The game remained scoreless for the remainder of the first half. During the second half the Owls defensive unit resisted heavy offensive pressure from the Minutewomen. For most of the second half Dalton, freshman Kelly Ann Lare, and junior goalkeeper Jackie Mauro led the Owls defense by successfully denying the Minutewomen access to the goal. Late in the second half Mauro tipped a high shot, destined for the net, over the goal and out-of-bounds.
With 25 seconds remaining in the second half the Minutewomen discovered the hole in the Owls defense. Senior midfield Erin Muir sent the ball across the box on a corner kick. Muir connected with senior defender Michelle Luttati, who sent a header past Mauro to tie the game.
Scoreless in the first overtime period, Temple scored its golden goal with 3:33 remaining in the second overtime. Sophomore forward Samantha Vietry, found herself in a fastbreak situation with her twin sister Stephanie. As they approached the goal Samantha laid the ball in front of Stephanie, who nailed the game-winner into the back of the net.
Temple (4-13-1, 2-8-0 A-10) will play its final game of the season on Sunday, November 2 versus Rhode Island. The game will mark Temple Stadium's final collegiate competition. Prior to the game the team will honor its departing seniors, Sara Meehan and Johanna Yemm.
