WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS AT XAVIER, 5-0

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple women's soccer team dropped its third straight Atlantic 10 conference game as the Xavier Musketeers blanked the Owls, 5-0, on Sunday, October 5.

Xavier exhibited a strong offensive unit as five different players scored for the Musketeers. The Owls held the Musketeers scoreless for the first thirty minutes of play. At 32:54 Xavier struck as sophomore Angie Scarlato sent a pass to sophomore Meredith Frendt, who scored on a high shot from 15 yards out.

The Musketeers netted the first of four second half goals in the 56th minute of play. Junior Lauren Giesting accepted a pass from sophomore Molly Finnerty and sent it across the goal line for the score. At 70:11 Giesting drove toward the goal, beat Temple goalkeeper Jackie Mauro and dumped the ball to junior Beverly Burkhart, who knocked it into the net. Slightly over eight minutes later freshman Ashley Valdisseri scored off a Scarlato cross ball. With less than four minutes remaining in the game freshman Ashley Silvis drilled a 40-yard shot high into net for the final score of the game.

In goal, Mauro recorded one save in 80:30 minutes of play. Freshman goaltender Elizabeth Tarasevich registered one save over the final nine and one-half minutes.

Xavier's goalkeepers, junior Andrea Garber and freshman Natalie Baker, each recorded one save. Garber spent 73:19 minutes in goal, while Baker spent 16:41 in goal.

The Temple women's soccer team (2-8-1, 0-3) next plays away at Fordham on Friday, October 10.
