WOMEN'S BASKETBALL WINS IN OVERTIME, 81-76 IN SEASON OPENER

East Lansing, Mich. - The Temple women's basketball team defeated Florida International 81-76 in overtime in the season opener for both teams at the Spartan Classic at the Breslin Center on November 22.

Sophomore center Candice Dupree led Temple with a game-high 23 points on 11-14 shooting and also had four steals in 42 minutes. Junior guard Cynthia Jordan (17 points), senior forward Tynecia Pam (12 points) and senior guar Christena Hamilton (12 points) also scored in double figures for the Owls.

Deniz Boz and Milena Tomova led Florida International with 17 points apiece. Mistoria Brown (13) and Ivelina Vrancheva (10) also scored in double figures for the Golden Panthers.

Temple, which trailed at halftime, 34-28, outscored FIU 40-34 in the scond half and 13-8 in overtime to seal the win. The Owls held the edge in steals 12 to 5, but were outrebounded 36-34.

Temple advances to the championship of the Spartan Classic where it will face host Michigan State at the Breslin Center on November 23. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
