MICHIGAN STATE DOWNS WOMEN'S BASKETBALL IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME OF THE SPARTAN CLASSIC

The first half was close until the Spatans went on a 20-4 run with 5:50 remaining in the first half to open up a 41-23 lead at intermission. MSU never looked back in giving the Owls their largest margin of defeat in the Dawn Staley era.
Michigan State (2-0) was led by Kristin Haynie, who had a game-high 16 points. Liz Shimek (13), Julie Pagel (12), and Rene Haynes rounded out the double figure scorers with 11 for the Spartans.
Senior Christena Hamilton was the Owls' leading scorer with nine points while sophomore Candice Dupree added eight points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds. Dupree was also named to the all-tournament team.
Michigan State shot a blistering 64 percent (18-for-28) in the first half and 58 percent for the contest. In comparison Temple shot 29 percent in the first half (nine-for-31) and 27 percent for the game.
Temple (1-1) will host East Tennessee State on Friday, November 28 at McGonigle Hall. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
