WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS AT No. 16/18 LSU, 68-52

Dupree, who shot 8-10, also had a block and a steal in her 38 minutes of action. Senior forward Tynecia Pam, junior forward Ari Moore and freshman Stephanie Douglas, playing in her first game of the season, each scored seven points for the Owls. Junior guard Cynthia Jordan suffered injuries to both ankles and was limited to 23 minutes of action, yet she scored six points, grabbed four rebounds, dished out four assists and added a block and a steal.
Sophomore guard Seimone Augustus led the Lady Tigers and matched Dupree's scoring effort with 19 points. Senior backcourt mates Doneeka Hodges (17 points, game-high eight rebounds) and Temeka Johnson (15 points, six rebounds, game-high 12 assists) also were stellar for LSU.
"We did not stay disciplined to the game plan," said Temple coach Dawn Staley. "When you do not stay disciplined against a team like LSU, you can find yourself down in a hurry."
While the Owls won the battle of the boards, 36-35, the Lady Tigers held the edge in field goal percentage (45 percent to 36 percent), steals (10-6) and turnovers (TU 18, LSU 10). Temple made a game of it for most of the first half and were within four (31-27) with 3:23 remaining in the opening session. But LSU closed the first half on a 7-0 run, including a lengthy desperation three by Johnson to put the Lady Tigers up 11 at intermission. LSU pushed the lead to as large as 22 in the second stanza and the Owls closed to within 15 but could never narrow the gap any more.
After a visit from Saint Nick, Temple will hit the road again as coach Staley returns to the University of Virginia for the first time as a head coach when the Owls play in the Cavalier Classic on Sunday, December 28. Tip-off for the Temple/Virginia game is 2:00 p.m. EST.
