Joining Jordan in double figures were senior guard Christena Hamilton and junior forward Ari Moore who had 11 apiece. Senior forward Tynecia Pam had a team-high 10 rebounds for Temple.
Patechia Hartman led Georgia State with a game-high 19 points. April Clyburn (12 points) who was the only other Lady Panther in double figures also had a game-high 12 rebounds.
Temple (4-5) managed to get the win despite having the services of leading scorer Candice Dupree for only 13 minutes due to foul trouble. In her absence the Owls turned up the defensive pressure and held Georgia State (4-4) without a field goal for over 12 minutes in the second half.
"We're pretty thin in the post and I did not want to put us in a position where we had to rely on inexperience," said coach Dawn Staley. "We controlled the tempo and our defense won the game for us tonight."
Temple held the advantage in shooting percentage (45 percent to 36 percent), steals (11-5) and turnovers forcing 22 while committing 14. Georgia State had a huge edge in rebounding 42-28.
The Owls will not play until next year (2004) as they ring in the new year by hosting Florida on January 2 at the Liacouras Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
