TEMPLE ASSISTANT FOOTBALL COACH ROCKY HAGER WITHDRAWS NAME FROM CONSIDERATION FOR NORTH DAKOTA STATE HEAD COACHING POSITION
2.27.03 | Football
"My previous success at North Dakota State made the position attractive," said Hager. "My current family situation and the progress of the Temple Football Program, however, keep me in Philadelphia."
Hager has served as an assistant football coach at Temple since 1997, directing the quarterbacks under then head coach Ron Dickerson. When current head coach Bobby Wallace arrived on North Broad Street in 1998, Hager moved to the defensive side, where he coached inside linebackers in 1998 and 1999. Since 2000, Hager has served as both the Owls' recruiting coordinator and tight ends coach. Earlier this month, Temple signed 28 student-athletes to National Letters of Intent, including 23 junior college prospects, 10 of which received All-America recognition in 2002.
Hager came to Temple from North Dakota State, where he served a highly-successful 10-year tenure with the Bison. He guided NDSU to the NCAA Division II National Championship twice (1988, '90), seven national playoff appearances and a 91-25-1 (.795) record.
Temple begins spring practice Saturday, March 29. The Owls concluded the 2002 season with a 4-8 record, including a 2-5 mark in Big East Conference play to finish tied for sixth place.
