WOMEN'S BASKETBALL BATTERS BONNIES TO CLINCH SECOND PLACE IN ATLANTIC 10 EAST

Olean, N.Y. -- The Temple women's basketball team (12-14, 8-7 A-10) clinched second place in the Atlantic 10 Conference East division with a 67-49 victory at St. Bonaventure (6-20, 3-12 A-10) on Thursday, February 27. With the win the Owls have earned a first round bye in the upcoming Atlantic 10 Championship.

Senior guard Stacey Smalls led the Owls with a game-high 15 points and was the only Temple player to score in double figures. Junior forward Toni Belafonte, sophomore forward Ari Moore and freshman center Mercedes Miller chipped in with nine points apiece. Junior guard/forward Christena Hamilton led the Owls in rebounding with six boards while Moore added five.

Courtney Mattingly led St. Bonaventure with 10 points and was the sole Bonnies player to hit for double digits. Jade Humble and Mattingly led St. Bonaventure in rebounding with six boards each.

Temple held a slim 28-27 advantage at intermission before shooting 15-27 (55.6 percent) in the second half to seize control of game. The Owls won the rebounding (31-30), turnover (TU 11, SBU 13), and steals (6-3) battles as well.

Next up for the Owls a visit to the Bronx on Sunday, March 2 to face the Fordham Rams in their regular season finale. Tip-off is at 2:00 p.m.
