SOFTBALL WINS FINAL THREE GAMES IN FLORIDA, GOES 9-6 ON 11-DAY TRIP

On Saturday night the Owls faced St. Francis College at five p.m. Temple battled the Terriers down to the wire and ended up on top, four to three. The Owls were lead by catcher Alexis Gary who was three for four at the plate, with three doubles, including the game-winning hit. Katherine White pitched 5.2 innings for the Owls, giving up three runs, one of them earned. Liz Naughton threw 1.1 innings, earning the decision and improving her record to four wins and two losses.
In the nightcap, Temple took on Wagner College of New York, tacking on yet another win, seven to three. Naughton, after a strong finish in the previous game, earned the start against the Seahawks. The Owls were hot at the plate, led by Aida Esquer, (three for three, 3B, 2 RBIs) and Jess Rohn (three for three). Alexis Gary sustained her offensive contributions, going two for three against the Wagner pitching staff. Liz Naughton helped her own cause, going two for three with two RBIs in her first at bats of the season and gaining another mark in the win column.
The final game of the trip took place today at nine a.m. against Canisius College. Vicky Grasham took the mound against the Golden Gophers and Temple's pitchers continued to make their mark at the plate. Naughton was one for two in the DP spot and Grasham dropped a two-run homerun, her second of the season and the difference in the three to two win. Kim Watkins pitched the final two innings, earning the save for the Owls.
Temple departs Florida at .500 with a 10-10 record. They prepare for play in the Atlantic 10-Big East Tournament this weekend, March 21 and 22, at Villanova University with Massachusetts, Seton Hall and Villanova. The Owls are scheduled to play at nine and 11 on Saturday and two and four on Sunday.
