WOMEN'S TENNIS GOES 1-2 AT SAN DIEGO INVITATIONAL

PHILADELPHIA -- After suffering through an injury plaqued weekend, the Temple University women's tennis team (4-3) brought home a 1-2 record after defeating the University of Nevada 7-0 and falling to the University of San Diego 1-4 and Southern Methodist 0-4. Junior Lara Ercegovic suffered a season ending injury and junior Danira Penic sprained her ankle rendering both unable to play in the final two matches.

Against the University of Nevada, all six Owls earned wins in the six singles spots. The duo of freshmen Mia Marovic and Lauran Verrall defeated Myriam Bouchlake and Ines Zoliabi 8-2 in the No. 2 doubles spot. In the No. 3 doubles spot, Rene Deyzel and Laura Seiverling defeated Christine Tilley and Claire Peterson 8-1. Junior Daina Penic and freshman Ana Maslesa lost a close match with Bijana Trpeska and Vania Apodaca 6-8 in the No. 1 doubles spot.

Freshman Mia Marovic pulled out a 2-6, 6-1, 6-0 victory over Emma Murphy in the No. 1 singles spot in the Owls 1-4 loss to the University of San Diego.

In their third match of the tournament, the Owls suffered a 4-0 loss to Southern Methodist. Both Penic and Ercegovic pulled out of their No. 2 and No. 3 singles matches in the contest.

The Cherry and White have a short road trip next up on the schedule. The Owls face the Penn Quakers on March 21, 2003 at 3:00 p.m.
