The Temple University softball team (10-14) dropped all four of its games in the Atlantic 10 versus Big East Tournament this weekend, March 22 and 23 at Villanova University. The Owls drop to four wins below .500 on the season. Temple played two games on Saturday, March 22 and two games on Sunday, March 23, each day consisting of a one game against Villanova and one game against Seton Hall. Massachusetts carried the weight for the Atlantic 10, winning all four of its games. The Atlantic 10 and Big East split the tournament, both picking up four wins on the weekend.

In Saturday's action, the Owls took on local rival Villanova at 9 a.m. but were edged by the Wildcats, 6-5.The game remained scoreless until the fourth inning when Temple put two runs on the board. In the bottom of the inning Nova tied the game at two, and took a four-run lead in the bottom of the fifth. The Owls chipped in two runs in the top of the sixth to keep the game within reach. In the top of the seventh and down two runs Temple fell just short, adding one more run but falling to the Wildcats, 6-5.

Liz Naughton took the loss, her first losing effort in the past six decisions. Jess Rohn had a single and a double for the Owls and Chrissy Harris also provided two hits, including her second homerun of the season.

At 11 a.m. the Owls took on Seton Hall, who also represented the Big East in the tournament. Temple had a three run lead entering the sixth, but the Pirates tied the game on a three run homerun in the top of the inning. The game was even at three runs apiece entering the seventh inning, but Seton Hall continued their work at the plate, adding two more runs in the final inning. Temple could not put together an offensive attack and took their second loss of the day,5-3.

For Temple, Jenny Cochran was two for three at the plate with a double and two RBIs and Chrissy Harris topped off the day with her second homerun in as many games.Vicky Grasham (3-5)was tagged with the loss

On Sunday,March 23, the Owls took on Seton Hall first, at 2 p.m. Vicky Grasham took the mound against the Pirates, looking to avenge yesterday's defeat. Seton Hall led by a run after one half innings, but the Owls scored twice as many in the bottom of the first. Bari Pflueger reached on a single and was brought in when Harris tripled to right field to tie the score. A sacrifice fly to center by Grasham scored Harris and gave the Owls the one run advantage. That would be the only runs the Owls would score however, and Seton Hall added three in the second and two in the third. Five Owls chipped in one hit apiece, but it was not enough to avoid their third straight loss,6-2.

In the final contest of the weekend, Temple played its second game against the Wildcats of Villanova. Kim Watkins earned her first start of the season and gave up three runs in five innings of work; however Temple could not step up to the offensive challenge, and was shut out by Nova. Katherine White came in after five innings and gave up three runs, but after two Temple errors, only one of them was earned. Temple's lone hit came from Alexis Gary, and the Owls lost their fourth game of the weekend,6-0.

Temple looks to turn things around on Wednesday, March 26 in the opening series of Atlantic 10 competition against Saint Joseph's University.
