SOFTBALL COMES OUT WITH A WIN IN COMPLETION OF SUSPENDED GAME, DEFEATS ST. JOSEPH'S, 6-3

The Temple Owls (12-14, 2-0 A-10) picked up right where they finished yesterday against St. Joseph's, in the bottom of the third inning down by one run, with the Hawks leading three to two. Temple however, used the new opportunity to turn things around and defeated the Hawks six to three in the second game of the doubleheader that was suspended yesterday due to rain.

With the Owls trailing three to two in the bottom of the fifth, Chrissy Harris led off with a two-base hit. Aida Esquer sacrificed Harris to third, and a single by pitcher Liz Naughton scored Harris and evened the game.

The difference in the game came in the Owls' sixth inning. Jenny Cochran was walked with one out and Bari Lynn Pflueger reached base on balls two batters later. A double by Alexis Gary scored pinch runner Nicole Undercuffler from second, putting the Owls up by a run. Chrissy Harris came up big again, dropping a single in the leftfield gap scoring two and padding the Owls lead on St. Joseph's to three runs.

St. Joseph's never threatened Temple's lead in the seventh. A fly ball to shortstop Jess Rohn and two grounders to third baseman Aida Esquer retired the Hawks in order and sealed the win for the Owls.

Liz Naughton pitched the complete game, allowing seven hits while walking one and striking out two. Her record improves to six and three as the Owls jump out to a good start in the Atlantic 10.

Temple continues conference play on Sunday, March 30 at noon against George Washington. The doubleheader will take place at Erny Field.
