Junior guard Christena Hamilton and sophomore guard Cynthia Jordan led the Owls with 10 points apiece but the outcome was not decided until senior Chrissy Cruz put back a Stacey Smalls miss with .6 seconds remaining to seal the win. Cruz also led Temple in rebounds with nine and assists with four in addition to her game winner.
Ebony Tanner led Richmond with a game-high 20 points. Kate Flavin (12) and Amber Goppert (10) were the other Spiders to score in double figures. Flavin also led Richmond in rebounding with a game-high 11 boards.
Temple had five players with eight or more points and three players with seven or more rebounds. The Owls won the rebounding (39-35), turnover (TU10, RU 17) and steals (8-4) battles. Temple also made the most of its trips to the free throw line as it was 9-9 from the charity stripe.
With the win, the Owls advance to face the number one overall seed, George Washington. The game, which will be broadcast by the Atlantic 10 Television Network, tips off on March 8 at 4:00 p.m. and can be seen locally on Comcast Sportsnet.
