WOMEN'S TENNIS CROWNED 2003 ATLANTIC 10 CHAMPIONS

COLLEGE PARK, MD. -- Straight-set victories by junior Danira Penic and freshman Mia Marovic at the top singles flights propelled the Owls to a 4-1 victory over Massachusetts on Saturday in the finals of the 2003 Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Championship at The Tennis Center in College Park, Maryland. The win marks the third title for Temple and first since 1995.

In the match, Penic defeated Jafra Depontes 6-0, 6-2 in the No.1 singles spot while freshman Marovic defeated Stephanie Price 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 2 singles flight. Sophomore Lauren Verrall and freshman Laura Seiverling defeated their opponents in the No. 4 and 6 singles positions to secure the win for the Cherry and White.

Earlier in the week, the Owls defeated Duquesne 4-1 and Richmond 4-3 to advance to the finals where they faced UMass.

With the A-10 Championship title, the Owls recieve an automatic bid to the NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament. The regional tournament will be held May 9-11 at a site yet to be determined.
